Frequently Asked Questions

– How often should an air conditioner be maintained?

Answer: An air conditioner must be maintained regularly to make sure it’s operating at its peak efficiency. The frequency of an air conditioning service in Sydney will depend on how often the air conditioner is used, but generally, it should be serviced once or twice every year. It may also be necessary to replace parts of the unit, like the filters or the evaporator coil, in order to keep it operating efficiently. If you have a ducted heating and cooling system installed in your home, it’s recommended that you get an annual maintenance service to ensure your system is running efficiently.

All of its parts need regular maintenance for the air conditioner to function well and cost-effectively. Neglecting regular maintenance results in a steady decrease in air conditioning performance and increased energy consumption. According to the latest reports, replacing a clogged filter in your air conditioning system can reduce energy consumption by 5 to 10%.

– What is the right size air conditioner for my house?

Answer: The right size air conditioner for most homes is around 5,000 BTU. However, there are some factors that you’ll need to take into consideration when determining the right size for your home. For example, the square footage of your house is a major determinant of how many BTUs you’ll need. Homes with greater square footage will require more BTU than smaller homes. The number of people living in your home will also determine the size of the air conditioner you’ll need.

You’ll want to purchase an air conditioner with enough capacity to cool down all of the rooms in your house at once. If it’s just one or two rooms that need cooling, you may only need an air conditioner between 2,000-3,500 BTU depending on the room size. However, if you live in a larger-than-average home or need an air conditioner for a room with large windows or high ceilings, you may want to go up to 12,000 BTUs or more. – How can I make my air conditioner energy-efficient?

Answer: One of the easiest ways to make your air conditioner more energy-efficient is by installing a programmable thermostat. This will allow you to set an optimal temperature for your home during different parts of the day, which can help save on energy costs. There are other simple things you can do to make your air conditioner more efficient, such as closing off areas that aren’t in use or replacing an old, inefficient filter. Investing in the best ducted air conditioner in Australia or air conditioning duct supplies can also be beneficial. Regular Aircon Service Sydney can also make your air conditioning system energy efficient and prolong its lifespan.

– What are the factors to consider during air conditioning installation?

Answer: A ducted heating and cooling system installation should be planned carefully to ensure you get the best results. Here are a few factors to consider during installation:

  • Duct length – You’ll need to know how many air conditioning units you’ll have, the total run of the ducts, and how the layout will work on your property.
  • Location – This gets complicated as different areas have different restrictions on where they can be located. There may be regulations restricting air conditioner installations near electrical transformers or fireplaces. If you’re considering an outdoor installation, check with local authorities before proceeding.
  • The number of rooms – How many bedrooms are there? More bedrooms mean more air conditioning units, which means more ducting. In addition, if you want individual temperature control in each bedroom (as opposed to a single main control), then the cost of the air conditioner installation increases considerably due to the need for additional room thermostats and separate air handlers.
  • Type of home – What kind of home do you live in? Is it a single level with no basement or attic space? Or is multi-level and large enough for ductwork installation through roof voids? This can have a great impact on the installation cost.

If all these considerations are taken into account prior to installation, you’ll have a better result. Call +61 2 9831 4444 for ducted air conditioning installation and ducted air conditioning repairs in Sydney

Ultra Air take pride in installing quality air conditioning products and strongly believe that a regular maintenance should be undertaken to optimise your air conditioning unit.

Air conditioning is an investment and regular maintenance and services ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness through all seasons. By doing so, you will benefit by maintaining economical savings via energy efficiency, maintaining the validity of the manufacturer’s warranty, ensuring the unit is operating safely and prevent further breakdowns, therefore eliminate unnecessary costly call outs.

Advice on operating your air conditioning unit

On a Hot Day

  • Always turn on the air conditioner early in the morning as this will reduce external heat entering before the peak of the heat.
  • Ensure windows, outside doors and doorways to unconditioned areas (eg laundries, bathrooms) remain closed at all times
  • Doorways on the return air path will need to be kept open, eg; doors to an unconditioned hallway will need to be kept open
  • Keep windows which are exposed to the sun, shaded with blinds, shutters, curtains or external shutters
  • Only operate the required zones and gradually switch zones to other areas if required
  • The recommended set-point temperature for the COOLING mode is 23 degrees Celsius and the fan mode set to CONT.

On a Cold Day

  • Operate your system using the timer function, this allows the conditioned area to warm up
  • Keep outside doors and windows closed at all times
  • Keep doors to unconditioned areas (eg laundries, bathrooms etc.) closed. Note that any doorways on the return air path will need to be kept open, which may mean that doors to an unconditioned hallway will need to be kept open
  • We strongly recommend that the fan mode is ONLY set to Auto mode, this allows the fan mode to operate only when the compressor is operating, this will eliminate any cool drafts on the OFF cycle.
  • On extremely cold days or mornings it may take up to 1-2 hours for the system to warm the area, this is caused by the system requiring going into the DEFROST mode. It is possible that when the system goes into defrost that a “swooshing” noise will be heard at the outdoor unit and occasionally, steam may be visible.
  • The recommended set-point temperature for the HEAT mode is 21 degrees Celsius and the fan mode set to AUTO.

Resetting the Air Conditioner

  • Switch the air conditioner off at the main power switchboard. Wait about 1 minute after the air conditioner has turned off before turning the main power switch back on.
  • You may need to wait up to 5 minutes for the compressor to turn on. If the air conditioner still does not seem to work, it may be faulty. A frequent need for resetting should be investigated. Call our service department and we will assist with your enquiry.
  • On an extremely Hot day the system may trip due to the high demand from the Electricity Grid, this causes the system safety controls to enable the system to operate further and eliminate any possible damage to the system.

Cleaning Filters

  • Filters require regular cleaning or replacement (depending on the type). As filters accumulate dust they block up, reducing airflow and the cooling or heating capacity of the air conditioner. In addition, some types lose filtration efficiency the dirtier they get.
  • Some filters are located in hinged filter frames attached to the return air grille. These filters are typically residential filters.
  • They are generally of the washable type and should be cleaned by gently washing with water. If water by itself is not cleaning the filter sufficiently, use a mild detergent. These filters usually require very frequent cleaning. It is recommended to clean the filter monthly.

Filter Light Flashing

  • If you find your filter light continuously flashing, press the on/off button once and it should reset for another 200 hours of running time. Before clearing this, please clean the filter as a precaution or simply click here to purchase an AirClean Filter which would require changing annually.
